Choosing the right coaxial cable requires more than selecting a familiar model number. The correct cable should match the electrical requirements of the equipment, operating frequency, transmission distance, allowable signal loss, connector type and installation environment.
A typical coaxial cable consists of a center conductor, dielectric insulation, shielding and an outer jacket. Differences in these components can affect impedance, attenuation, shielding performance, cable dimensions and installation requirements.
For this reason, buyers should start with the system requirements and then compare compatible cable constructions.
Before selecting a cable, confirm the following factors:
Impedance
The cable impedance should match the equipment or system specification.
Operating Frequency
Cable performance varies with frequency. Compare the published performance at the frequency actually used by the system.
Attenuation
Longer cable runs and higher-frequency applications make signal loss increasingly important. Compare attenuation at the required operating frequency rather than relying only on terms such as “low loss.”
Cable Size and Installation Space
Confirm the outside diameter, routing space and bending requirements before replacing one cable with another.
Shielding
The shielding construction should suit the electromagnetic environment and system requirements.
Connector Compatibility
The cable construction and dimensions must be compatible with the required connector or termination method.
These factors should be considered together. Two cables with the same nominal impedance are not necessarily interchangeable.
Xingfa offers several VATC-series coaxial cables, including 17VATC, 19VATC and 21VATC.
These models belong to the same general product family, but the correct cable should be selected according to the existing equipment specification, conductor construction, cable dimensions, attenuation, connector requirements and installation conditions.
If your equipment or project already specifies a particular VATC model, review the corresponding product specifications before considering a substitute:
17VATC coaxial cable — review when the existing design or equipment specifies a 17VATC construction.
19VATC coaxial cable — compare when the project requires a 19VATC construction or another compatible VATC option.
21VATC coaxial cable — review when the system or project specification specifically requires 21VATC.
Do not choose between these cables only according to the model number. Confirm the latest technical specifications and actual system requirements first.
Xingfa's FB-series range includes 5D-FB, 8D-FB and 10D-FB coaxial cable constructions.
When comparing FB-series cables, pay particular attention to:
operating frequency;
attenuation;
required cable length;
conductor and overall cable dimensions;
connector compatibility;
available routing space.
For projects where a smaller FB-series construction is required, review the 5D-FB coaxial cable specifications.
For RF transmission, wireless communication, antenna or base-station projects, buyers can also review Xingfa's 8D-FB coaxial cable and compare its published attenuation, dimensions and shielding construction with the system requirements.
Xingfa also supplies 10D-FB coaxial cable. Because FB-series products can differ significantly in electrical and mechanical construction, check the latest technical datasheet before replacing one model with another.
When choosing between KX6 and KX8, start with the requirements of the transmission system rather than the cable model number.
Choose KX6 coaxial cable when its cable dimensions, attenuation and connector compatibility already meet the equipment and installation requirements. Its smaller construction may also be easier to route where installation space is limited.
Consider KX8 coaxial cable when the project requires lower published attenuation over the required transmission distance and the installation has enough space for the larger cable construction and compatible connectors.
Before making the final selection, check the operating frequency, total cable length, acceptable signal loss, connector compatibility and available routing space. If the equipment manufacturer already specifies KX6 or KX8, follow that specification before considering a substitute.
For detailed dimensions and attenuation data, compare the individual KX6 cable specifications and KX8 cable specifications.
For most projects, use the following process:
1. Confirm the equipment requirements.
Check impedance, operating frequency, connector and any specified cable model.
2. Define the installation.
Confirm cable length, routing space, indoor or outdoor conditions and mechanical requirements.
3. Compare technical specifications.
Review attenuation, shielding, conductor construction and cable dimensions.
4. Confirm before substituting a cable.
Do not replace one coaxial cable with another based only on a similar model name or diameter.
If your application does not specifically require a VATC or FB-series product, review Xingfa's full coaxial cable range to compare other available cable families.
If you are unsure which coaxial cable fits your application, prepare the following information before requesting technical support:
existing cable model
required impedance
operating frequency
cable length
connector type
installation environment
required quantity
